The attacks of pirates had left tragical memories to the island, pictured in the local legends and traditions. For the village of Kalirachi the tradition says that it was built in another site and was ruined by the pirates. The older village was named Kaki Rachi (Bad Hill). Before the destruction, a Lord, Savel left with his escort from the village Kaki Rachi and came to today’s’ site, where he built the new village. The village of Kalirachi is built on a mountain side, with traditional homes and streets. The inhabitants are engaged with agriculture and fishing as well as tourism. The village is proud of its Cultural and Folklore¬†Museum, where a rich collection of traditional works is displayed.
